Meet the Makers: Emily

posted on June 9th, 2015

As part of a new series on the blog, we want to introduce to everyone to the players here on the Jill Rosenwald Team!

Emily is our potter, she hand throws all the pieces.

How did you get your start with ceramics? I started playing around with clay as a youngster, becoming more involved with ceramics in high school and finally attending Mass Art to pursue ceramics. While in college, I also fell in love with fibers/weaving and glass blowing. I really enjoy the physical making of pieces and respect their functionality.

How long have you been here at the Jill Rosenwald Studio? Just about a year.

What is your favorite part of being part of Jill’s team and process? I love that Jill lets us see and be a part of all aspects of the process and business. We get to be part of seeing pieces come to life from pen and ink to clay; all along the way Jill involves us.

Do you have a favorite piece to throw? Yea! I love throwing the large bee bowl. It is incredibly satisfying throwing and shaping that much clay.

We are all about pattern here, do you have a favorite Jill pattern as well? Stripes are the best, they are classic, will never go out of style and look great on any shape.

Lastly, since we LOVE color, what’s your favorite Jill color? That would have to be rouge, with cobalt coming in a close second.
