posted on December 12th, 2014

guess what?  pantone released its color of the year..wait for it..MARSALA!  huh?  i am sure they know best..who am i to question..but let’s be real..look at it..this is the color.  i mean.  wah.  my darling friend blogger erin gates posted about it this week and decided we need a do over..make it santorini blue she cries!

because those of us who lived through the 70’s remember this tragedy.

oh pantone!  do not pretend that you are bordeaux or oxblood or crimson..a color i could wrap my brain you do in this farce..uh..people the color on the left has very little to do with the clothing on the right..right?

and further here the media provides more examples of clothing we are meant to imagine are marsala..but they are not.  oh no..they are not.

i mean..shit..i love bordeaux!

wait.  then this am. i saw rihanna.  heart stoppingly beautiful.  and there it was.  a modern version of Marsala that works.

I couldn’t agree more! My reaction was the same: what?? this lifeless mud??- And I have seen a few fabric versions already that slavishly have followed the Pantone color – it is boring – However it is spurring all kinds of spins on that color – I like a strong deep blue next to it – or I take a color that is much deeper and call it “Marsala II” – even though it is a warm earthy red/blue-brown. It goes great with dusty violet or almost mauve.
